Chris Davis on the losing streak and facing the Yankees

The Orioles have lost five in a row for the first time since May 26-June 1, 2012, when they lost six in a row and they have dropped six straight at home for the first time since April 9-14, 2010. The last time the Orioles lost seven in a row at home was August 22-September 7, 2007 when they lost 11 in a row. Right now they are sitting on a winless homestand at 0-5 and the last time they started a homestand going 0-5 was was also April 9-14, 2010, when they lost three each to Toronto and Tampa Bay. Chris Davis said the team has to basically try and have a short memory here, put those games in the past and start a winning streak tonight. "Yeah, we better or it will turn into a six-game losing streak," he said. "I think the big thing to remember is we do play 162 games. We won some games on that road trip and have followed that with a few losses. I think we'll be all right, get our feet back underneath us and hopefully sweep these guys." The Yankees are 27-16, tying their season-high at 11 games over .500 with wins in nine of their last 12 games. Davis was asked about facing CC Sabathia, a pitcher with a record of 17-4 and 3.03 ERA in 26 career starts against the Orioles. "He's been doing it for a long time," Davis said. "He's getting a little older now and your velocity may dip some when you get older but he's still one of the best left-handed pitchers in the game. He knows how to pitch, he knows how to win." As for these two teams, the Orioles and Yankees split 18 regular season meetings last year and then New York won the ALDS in five games and also took two of three from the Orioles this year in the fourth series of the season. It looks like that Orioles-Yankees rivalry is heating up again. "I think this is always a tough division to play in," Davis said. "Beginning of the year people were counting the Yankees out. Some guys have gone over there and had a resurgence in their careers. They are still at the top of the division as they always are. But I think everyone is so evenly matched in this division, you have to bring you're A-game every night."
