After his latest big night at the plate, Chris Davis talked about being locked in so well at bat right now.
"It's fun," Davis said. "You are always working on things. Just the consistent approach every day has helped me out. The routine. I heard for such a long time that routine is such a big part of this game and I've really found one that I like. I've continued to do that every day.
"When you have a team like this with a bunch of guys that rally around each other, it makes it easier to come to work each day. We've had a tough last week really. Every win has been very hard fought and the losses have been frustrating, but we enjoy picking each other up."
Davis went 4-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs in the Orioles' 9-6 comeback win over the Nationals. He hit his major league-leading 18th and 19th homers, which is five more than any player had before tonight. He is batting .600 (18-for-30) during an eight-game hitting streak and he has hit six homers in those eight games.
Could he have ever imagined having such a big year?
"I don't think so. You always expect yourself to succeed and I think it's a reward for hard work. You can't predict stuff like this. I just go out every day and try to have good at-bats. Also a key is being patient and that is really all I've done," said Davis, who is now batting .359 with 19 homers and 50 RBIs.
The Orioles were down 6-2 in the sixth but rallied against Jordan Zimmermann, who was 8-2 with an ERA of 1.71.
"We're resilient, that is one of the things about us. We don't go away," Davis said." (Ryan) Zimmerman freaks out and keeps hitting home runs, that game could have gotten away from us. The other Zimmermann was pitching pretty well, but we got some runs on the board and it took off from there.
"Absolutely (this win is big). Any time you come from behind. Late game last night, we were tired and to pull it out like that is really huge. I gave a little fist bump at the end. That let you know how much this win meant to us."
And Davis had his huge game on the night they gave out his T-shirt at Camden Yards.
"It is definitely an honor to look out and see so many people wearing your shirt," he said. "To know you have so many fans behind you. I was kind of in awe tonight and to have the game I had is an added bonus."
