Cruz, Jones hitless in first trips to plate in All-Star Game (updated)

It never fails. A player catches a routine fly ball and leads off the next inning.

Adam Jones did it tonight in the All-Star Game at Target Field in Minnesota, squeezing Andrew McCutchen's fly ball to center field to end the top of the second and immediately coming to the plate in the bottom half.

Happens all the time, folks.

But seriously, Jones took a Clayton Kershaw pitch out of the strike zone and popped up to third baseman Aramis Ramirez. He's 0-for-1.

Jones is hitting behind teammate Nelson Cruz, who shattered his bat on the first pitch from National League starter Adam Wainwright and grounded to short to end the bottom of the first. Cruz also is 0-for-1.

Matt Wieters is in the American League dugout, unable to play due to his elbow surgery but still able to fist-bump with the best of them.

The American League scored three runs off Wainwright in the first.

Derek Jeter, in his final All-Star Game, led off with a double to right field - of course he did - and came home on Mike Trout's triple. Miguel Cabrera homered with one out.

The National League scored twice off left-hander Jon Lester in the second.

It's really not the Red Sox's season.

Earlier today, the Orioles chose Single-A Delmarva's Chance Sisco and Jon Keller as the organization's minor league Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June.

Sisco, Delmarva's catcher, batted .404/.476/.528 with eight doubles, a home run and 19 RBIs in 24 games. He leads the South Atlantic League with a .353 average.

Keller went 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA and one save in 16 innings. He walked three and struck out 15, and opponents batted .213 against him.

Update: Cruz and Jones struck out in the fourth inning against Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke. They're a combined 0-for-4.
