David Hernandez's post-game comments

When David Hernandez pitched at Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park back-to-back and gave up just two earned runs in 13 innings, it looked like he was a pitcher on a roll. But over his last two outings, vs. Boston and Detroit, he allowed 7ER in 7 1/3 innings for an ERA of 8.59. He certainly bounced back well tonight, pitching the Orioles past Oakland, 3-2. Hernandez is now 4-4, 3.81. He gave up just six hits and two runs over 6 2/3, throwing 107 pitches. "I knew I had to redeem myself. I didn't want to have three straight bad starts," Hernandez said. "I just tried to get back on the horse and do well. I was able to change eye levels pretty well tonight and elevate my fastball and keep my changeup down." He set a season-high with six strikeouts. "I felt like I had three good pitches tonight and I kept the hitters off balance. I kept my pitch count down somewhat and got into the seventh, then Matty came in and got me out of a jam. "Being able to throw all three pitches at any time helps get strikeouts. This is a good start, I'd like to take this into my next start vs. Anaheim." Hernandez picked up his 5th quality start over his last seven outings. He said he worked well with veteran catcher Chad Moeller. "I worked with him some in Triple-A and he knows what I can do. He called a good game. He's been around the game awhile and I trust him, didn't need to shake off too many pitches."
