Davis wins it in 13th

Chris Davis' two-out bloop single into left field in the bottom of the 13th inning off Red Sox reliever Alex Wilson scored Nick Markakis and gave the Orioles a 5-4 victory before whatever remained of 20,098 at Camden Yards. Markakis walked with two outs and Adam Jones singled to right field. Davis followed with his second run-scoring single of the night. Rule 5 pick T.J. McFarland picked up his first major league win by retiring the Red Sox in order in the top of the 13th inning. The game lasted 4 hours, 35 minutes. When it started, Miguel Gonzalez and his wife were debating whether to conceive their first child. When it started, Freddy Garcia was in the rotation. Then he was in the bullpen. Seriously. He joined Pedro Strop, whose mop-up duty might involve cleaning up the sweat around Garcia. Tommy Hunter gave the Orioles 2 1/3 scoreless innings after replacing Brian Matusz, striking out two. Darren O'Day didn't allow a run in 1 1/3 innings, striking out two. Troy Patton followed his 1 2/3 innings yesterday with two-thirds of a scoreless inning tonight. Jim Johnson retired the side in order in the 12th without a ball leaving the infield. Two of them didn't get past the mound. No hits allowed by the group. The Orioles have moved into second place in the American League East.
