Day Two in Dallas (updated)

DALLAS - If you're anticipating that the Orioles will make a move today, look for it to be a trade. And expect it to involve a starter or reliever. Could Mount St. Joseph grad Gavin Floyd be in the mix? The White Sox apparently are willing to move him, and the Orioles have coveted him for years. Well, former president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail was a big admirer. I doubt that executive vice president Dan Duquette has any issues with Floyd. Pure speculation. I'm just saying that Floyd is available and the Orioles like him. But who can they offer in a deal? Update: The White Sox would rather move John Danks, believing they can get more in return. They'd want at least one young starter. They'd also take an outfield prospect. They believe in buying low and wouldn't be scared off by Brian Matusz's poor 2011 season. But again, the Orioles need pitching. Can they afford to part with it? But again, what else do they have to trade if guys like Matt Wieters, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and J.J. Hardy aren't in play? Also, keep in mind that Danks can be a free agent after next season. I'll plead ignorance here: I never expected Robert Andino to wind up as one of the Orioles' most attractive trade chips. What a world. The Orioles might be stocking up on utility infielders, including Matt Antonelli and Steve Tolleson, for reasons other than Brian Roberts' concussion symptoms. One report this week had the Orioles also expressing interest in Rockies infielder Ian Stewart. You might recall that I wrote last week about the Orioles' interest in Venezuelan left-hander Renyel Pinto, 29, the former Florida Marlins reliever. Director of international operations David Stockstill has scouted him and met with him. I'm told that Pinto is still a possibility, but there's nothing concrete. In case you were wondering. The Orioles are looking for relievers. What's Brian Bass doing these days? Actually, he made 28 starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year. In case you were wondering. FOX Sports reported late last night that the Orioles and Rockies continue to discuss a trade for closer Huston Street. I'm still trying to figure out what the Rockies want in return and what the Orioles would give up. There's no way the Rockies are getting Jeremy Guthrie straight-up for Street. And it's obvious that Duquette is very hesitant to part with Guthrie. Street is due $7.5 million next season. How much are the Rockies willing to eat? The Marlins signed closer Heath Bell to a three-year, $27 million deal this week. Former Orioles executive Jim Duquette signed Bell for the Mets as an undrafted free agent for $1,000 back in 1998. He no longer feels guilty. Remember the reports about former Oriole Sidney Ponson making a comeback? They were bogus. Ponson has no intention of pitching again. His agent happened to chat briefly with Oakland general manager Billy Beane, and a reporter tweeted that the two sides were discussing Ponson. Meanwhile, Ponson is chilling in Fort Lauderdale and contemplating whether he should buy a boat. The Ponson ship has sailed. A leftover from yesterday's chat with Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson: He admitted that he's sneaked downtown twice to check out his statue outside Pickles Pub. "I've been down there a couple of times," Robinson said. "Just kind of put my hat down and walked down there with my son, (who) was in from Detroit and my brother. He stayed over the Monday afterwards. We went down. He stayed right there at the (Hampton Inn) nearby. Got a good look at it. It's great." Was No. 5 mobbed by fans? "One person was walking around and he kind of recognized me after a while," Robinson said. "I said, 'You want to take a picture?' So he took a picture." Wouldn't we all?
