Endy Chavez talks about the injury that will lead him to the DL

It has been a frustrating start to the season for Orioles reserve outfielder Endy Chavez. After hitting .301 last year with Texas, he is batting just .133 in 20 games with the Orioles and now he is headed for the disabled list. Chavez will be officially put on the DL at some point today, likely after Game 1, to allow the Orioles to recall Tommy Hunter from the minors to pitch tonight's second game of the doubleheader with Texas. "They said on the MRI the oblique is fine (showing no structural damage). It's more on the side, my left side," Chavez said today in the Orioles clubhouse. "It's been getting worse. There is more swelling now and it's more painful so that's why they decided to put me on the DL. "Definitely (it's frustrating). I never thought I'd be in this position. It's kind of frustrating and disappointing. I want to help the team. It was something I was not expecting." Chavez, who hit .444 in spring training, went 1-for-5 during Tuesday's game and said the pain got worse during that game. The injury had started, though, during the team's first road trip of the year. "Honestly, it started when we were in Anaheim, but I kept playing and getting treatment so I could handle it, but now it's getting worse. Tuesday, I had some pain during the game, so I decided to tell them," Chavez said. "The best thing right now is to rest it. The best thing is not to touch it too much."
