Five Auburn players invited to NY-Penn All-Star game

Several Single-A Auburn Doubleday players have had great starts to their seasons with five of them being rewarded with invites to the New York-Penn League All-Star Game. The game is August 14 at Mahoning Valley. The five invitees are right fielder Wander Ramos, left fielder Estarlin Martinez, first baseman Shawn Pleffner, shortstop Wes Schill and catcher Craig Manuel, according to Auburn manager Gary Cathcart. Pleffner, a 26th rounder in 2011 and born in Washington, D.C., is hitting .322 in 29 games with 13 doubles, one triple, one homer and 13 RBIs. Ramos, from the Dominican Summer League, is hitting .284 in 43 games, with 11 doubles, two triples, four homers and 26 RBIs. Manuel, a 10th rounder in 2012 and born in Rockville, Md., is hitting .273 in 30 games. Martinez, also a product of the Dominican Summer League in 2009, is scorching the ball at .329 in 40 games, with 11 doubles, three triples, four homers and 24 RBIs. And Schill, an undrafted free agent, is hitting .270 in 38 games, with five doubles, one homer, 16 RBIs and seven steals.
