Flaherty goes on DL, Janish starting at shortstop

The Orioles placed Ryan Flaherty on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Friday with a strained right shoulder, and they purchased Paul Janish's contract from Triple-A Norfolk.

A decision is pending on whether Flaherty receives a platelet-rich plasma injection. He underwent an MRI yesterday.

The discomfort in in the lat/rotator cuff area and it's impacting Flaherty's throws. He's been bothered by it since spring training and it keeps coming back.

Janish is starting at shortstop today. Jonathan Schoop is leading off again after walking twice Friday night from atop the order.

Blue Jays right-hander Marco Estrada has reverse splits. Left-handers are batting .218 against him this season and .217 in his career.

Manager Buck Showalter is countering by starting Trey Mancini in left field and Mark Trumbo in right, with Welington Castillo as his designated hitter.
