Gausman update, Yoon to DL (update)

Kevin Gausman is starting today at Triple-A Norfolk, where he's scheduled to throw one inning against Indianapolis at Harbor Park. It's basically the equivalent of a side session for Gausman, who was optioned late Friday night with the understanding that he will be recalled as the 26th player for this Friday's doubleheader. Gausman will start Game 1 against the Rays. The plan also calls for Gausman to be optioned following his start and return to the Orioles for his next scheduled turn. The Orioles needed a seventh reliever following Ubaldo Jimenez's 5 2/3-inning start Friday at Yankee Stadium, which necessitated the roster move involving Gausman. Gausman has allowed two runs in 19 innings in his last three starts with the Orioles. Manager Buck Showalter is taking advantage of Thursday's off-day to adjust his rotation. Jimenez will pitch Wednesday night against the White Sox instead of Friday, when the Orioles need length from their starters. Update: Gausman threw 23 pitches in his one inning for Norfolk today and gave up a two-run homer to former Orioles outfielder Chris Dickerson. Also, Korean right-hander Suk-min Yoon was placed on the seven-day minor league disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Yoon is 3-7 with a 5.76 ERA in 15 starts with Norfolk. He's allowed 95 hits in 75 innings. Yoon gave up six runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings Saturday against Indianapolis. The Orioles were able to option Yoon to the minors this spring, but his contract prohibits such a move without his permission the next two years. Last night, the Orioles confirmed that pitcher Edgmer Escalona was outrighted to Norfolk after completing his major league rehab assignment. Escalona already was removed from the 40-man roster after the Orioles transferred him to the 60-day disabled list. Double-A Bowie right-hander Zach Davies has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 22. Davies went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts over 13 innings and two starts. He surrendered only three hits in the pair of shutout victories.
