Right-hander Lucas Giolito had a superb second start for high Single-A Potomac at Wilmington on Thursday night.
The Nationals' top prospect Giolito (0-2) went six innings and allowed one run on five hits, striking out a career-high 11 batters in a 1-0 loss to the Blue Rocks. He faced 23 batters, and induced five groundouts and one flyout.
Wilmington's Frank Schwindel had a triple and RBI single against Giolito that plated the game's lone tally in the sixth.
The P-Nats' offense could not score against Wilmington starter Cody Reed (3-2). Christopher Bostick and Narciso Mesa had two hits apiece for the P-Nats (14-20). Mesa also stole third, but P-Nats could not get him home.
Some of the buzz on twitter regarding Giolito's start:
Lucas Giolito has an electric fastball and a devastating curve. Expect more of this from the Nationals' top prospect. pic.twitter.com/63OCel6yVK

@LGio27 fanned the side for the second time in the game in the 4th! Giolito has nine Ks & has allowed just three baserunners. He needs runs

Giolito was concerned about his command of his fastball and secondary pitches after his first start last week. With the 11 strikeouts and only one walk, it appears that Giolito is back on track.
After five days' rest, it is probable that Giolito's next start will be Wednesday, May 20 at home against Carolina.
