Giolito starts off well, but falls in Double-A debut for Harrisburg

Right-hander Lucas Giolito began the night well in his Double-A debut, but ended up with a 5-0 loss as New Hampshire dropped Harrisburg in Manchester, N.H.

The Nationals top prospect Giolito retired the first six batters he faced. But in the third, the Fisher Cats connected on four straight hits. New Hampshire led 2-0 after three.

Lucas Giolito red USA.jpgGiolito allowed a two-run single in the sixth to K.C. Hobson. That was the end of his outing, replaced by recently sent down right-hander Abel De Los Santos.

He ended up with five innings pitched, allowing six hits, four runs, three walks and striking out three batters. Giolito threw 86 pitches, 49 for strikes.

De Los Santos did throw two scoreless innings, including an escape from a bases loaded jam in the seventh. He allowed no hits, two walks and struck out three.

Giolito was 3-5 with a 2.71 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) for high Single-A Potomac. He had 86 strikeouts and 20 walks.

The Senators are at Portland Sunday at 1:00 p.m., which is scheduled to be Giolito's next start.
