Giving the rotation another spin (updated)

NEW YORK - I'm heading to Yankee Stadium for the finale of this three-game series, with Chris Tillman looking to exorcise his Bronx demons. Or exercise them, if that's an easier task. Tillman has an 8.42 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees, and it jumps to 10.69 in four starts in New York. He surrendered five runs (four earned) and eight hits in five innings back on July 31. Tillman is 4-1 with a 2.96 ERA in five road starts this season. Maybe he can lean on that statistic for comfort. Jason Hammel tossed five scoreless innings last night at Single-A Frederick and is lined up to make Thursday's start against the Yankees at Camden Yards. Doing so would allow the Orioles to provide extra rest for Wei-Yin Chen, perhaps moving him to Friday. As the rotation is currently set up, left-hander Joe Saunders will start Monday in Toronto, with left-hander Zach Britton expected to be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start on Tuesday. Miguel Gonzalez could pitch Wednesday on normal rest. We're looking at a six-man rotation, and let's not forget Jake Arrieta, who's allowed four runs in his last three starts at Norfolk and figures to be added to the Orioles' expanded roster. Tommy Hunter tossed an inning last night at Double-A Bowie, collecting the save, and is more likely to be moved to the Orioles' bullpen. Manager Buck Showalter might shed some light on the subject later today when he meets with reporters. Shameless plug alert: I'll be appearing on "O's Xtra," which airs at 12:30 p.m. on MASN. UPDATE: The Orioles are listing Saunders and Britton as starters for the first two games of the Toronto series. Wednesday's starter is TBA. The Blue Jays' starters are Carlos Villanueva, Brandon Morrow and Henderson Alvarez.
