Gonzalez loses no-hitter, shutout and game as O's fall 2-1 at Houston

So the Orioles finally get some quality starting pitching back-to-back nights in Houston and they lose both games. The runs stopped coming just as the starters began throwing better. Miguel Gonzalez took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and a 1-0 lead into the seventh tonight, but Houston scored twice with two outs in that inning to beat the Orioles 2-1. Gonzalez deserved a better fate tonight. The Orioles have lost four in a row, nine of 13 games and 13 of their last 19 to fall to 26-27. For the first time since they were 9-10 on April 22, the Orioles are under the .500 mark. They also missed a chance to gain on first-place Toronto, which lost tonight. The four-game losing streak matches their season-high and the Orioles are now 2-7 their last nine road games. The Orioles took a 1-0 lead on lefty Brett Oberholtzer in the second. Adam Jones doubled and scored on J.J. Hardy's single. Hardy is 11-for-28 with runners in scoring position (.393). After an infield single with one out in the sixth by Jose Altuve ended Gonzalez's no-hit bid, Houston scored twice off him in the seventh on back-to-back two-out RBI doubles by Robbie Grossman and Jonathan Villar. Over 6 2/3 innings, Gonzalez gave up five hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts. It was his fourth straight quality start and his ERA is 2.81 in that stretch. Gonzalez is 3-4 with a 4.17 ERA on the season. Houston improved to 24-32 overall and 15-13 in May with its seventh win a row. That is the Astros' first seven-game winning streak since July 27-Aug. 3, 2010. The Orioles are 2-3 against Houston and have been held to 13 runs in those games. The O's have scored just five runs over their past three games. In the third game of this series on Saturday afternoon at 4:10 p.m., Chris Tillman (4-2, 4.97 ERA) faces Dallas Keuchel (6-2, 2.55 ERA).
