Hanhold joins Orioles (plus today's lineups)

The Orioles found a fresh arm for their bullpen this morning, selecting the contract of reliever Eric Hanhold from Triple-A Norfolk.

Hanhold replaces Manny Barreda, who was optioned after Game 2 of last night's stunning 11-2 loss. Barreda served up Teoscar Hernández's 445-foot, three-run homer in the Jays' 11-run seventh inning.

Matt Harvey was transferred to the 60-day injured list with right knee inflammation to make room for Hanhold on the 40-man roster. Harvey's season is done.

He can become the 59th player used by the Orioles this season to break the club record of 58 set in 2019.

Norfolk manager Gary Kendall used Hanhold in 25 games this season and the right-hander had a 5.19 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 26 innings.

Hanhold is wearing No. 63.

Trey Mancini is out of today's lineup. Ryan Mountcastle is playing first base and Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Jahmai Jones also goes to the bench, with Ramón Urías playing second base.

Austin Wynns is catching.

Cedric Mullins needs one home run and two stolen bases for the first 30/30 season in franchise history. He already was the first to 28/28 and slugged his 29th homer last night.

Rookie left-hander Zac Lowther is making his third major league start and seventh appearance. He's allowed 11 runs and 16 hits in 14 1/3 innings, but he held the Royals to one run and three hits in six innings in his last outing.

Lowther faced the Blue Jays in a July 7 relief appearance and allowed one run in two innings.

The Orioles are 46-96 overall, 5-10 against Toronto and 5-6 this month.

They Orioles face another lefty today, Steven Matz, who's 11-7 with a 3.70 ERA and 1.333 WHIP in 25 starts. He's made two starts against the Orioles this season and surrendered five earned runs and six total with 11 hits in nine innings.
