Harrisburg introduces new mayfly batting practice cap for 2014

The Double-A Harrisburg Senators announced Thursday they will have a new on-field batting practice cap worn by players, coaches and staff for the upcoming 2014 season. The New Era fitted cap is blue with a blue bill and a red button on top, with a mayfly depicted on the front panel. Mayfliescap.jpg"We really wanted to capture something that is unique to us with this new on-field cap," said Senators president Kevin Kulp said a team-issued new release. "The mayfly is truly nature at work. We have what I think is the most unique setting in the country with being in the middle of the Susquehanna River." The news release described mayflies as "harmless little bugs hatched near the banks of the Susquehanna River" that have a short lifespan and are fond of the bright lights at Metro Bank Park. The mayfly caps are now available in the team store or online through the Senators Web site. Minor league baseball caps are a big part of New Era's business, comprising one of the six categories of caps available, alongside NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and college caps. This mayfly cap will be a signature item for the Senators, providing them with a distinctive batting practice cap that will surely be a big seller in the team store.
