Hunter bending but not breaking (O's trail 2-1)

Three of the first five Phillies singled off Tommy Hunter today, but he's turned in two scoreless innings in his first start with the Orioles since May 28. Jim Thome grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the first after Juan Pierre and Hunter Pence singled with out one. Shane Victorino singled leading off the second, but former Oriole Ty Wigginton grounded into a force, former Orioles' first-round draft pick Mike Fontenot flied out and Hector Luna struck out. Wigginton almost hit into a double play, but Nick Johnson couldn't scoop Robert Andino's low throw. Hunter threw nine pitches in the first inning and 10 in the second. Of his 19 pitches, 15 are strikes. Instant update: Oops. Jimmy Rollins just homered with one out in the third inning, the 14th homer allowed by Hunter this season. Phillies 1, Orioles 0. Update II: The Orioles tied the game in the third on singles by Robert Andino and Endy Chavez, and Chris Davis' ground ball, but Jim Thome led off the fourth with his first home run of the season. Hunter has allowed 15 homers in 62 innings. Dana Eveland (last night) and Brad Bergesen (June 29, 2011) are the only Orioles relievers to throw three or more perfect innings since the start of the 2007 season. Kevin Gregg has posted a 1.32 ERA (two earned runs in 13 2/3 innings) over his last 12 outings since allowing five earned runs in his first three appearances covering 3 2/3 innings. Among major league pitchers with 50 right-handed batters faced, Pedro Strop has posted the second-lowest average against at .096 (5-for-52), trailing only the Reds' Aroldis Chapman (.091).
