Injury updates on Chris Tillman and Mike Wright

Chris Tillman isn't expected to make Monday night's start in Oakland as he recovers from a sprained left ankle.

Tillman said the ankle felt better today, but he hasn't thrown a bullpen session and manager Buck Showalter wants to push him back. Tillman isn't considered a candidate for the disabled list.

Showalter said he won't start Miguel Gonzalez on short rest. Gonzalez will pitch Tuesday night.

Tyler Wilson could be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and named Monday night's starter. It would be a simple roster move, with reliever Jorge Rondon returning to the Tides.

Wilson pitched on Wednesday in Pawtucket and would be working on normal rest. We'll see.

Mike Wright no longer is a consideration. He was placed on the disabled list today with a strained left calf.

Wright, who's wearing a walking boot, underwent an MRI this morning that revealed the extent of the injury. He was told that he could be sidelined two-to-four weeks.

"I guess there was some swelling and some blood where from where it had torn, so it's like a Grade 2 strain," he said.

Wright left last night's game in the fifth inning after relieving starter Wei-Yin Chen.

"I was trying to downplay it into a cramp so I could continue pitching, but it sucks now that I'm on the 15-day DL," Wright said. "Hopefully, it's not longer than that and I can come back sooner."

Wright felt some cramping in the calf during his last start with Norfolk.

"It didn't feel the same. It was definitely way worse here," he said. "The last time it seriously might have been a cramp or it was mild enough that that's all I thought it was. The other day, it was kind of tough to walk after it."

Wright will skip the West Coast trip and head down to Sarasota to rehab.
