Tsuyoshi Wada worked four innings today in an extended spring training game in Sarasota, striking out six and throwing around 68 pitches. The reports on him remain favorable. Not a single setback in his recovery and return from ligament-reconstructive surgery on his left elbow, which took place on May 11. Wada's progression will take him to five innings in his next outing, assuming the elbow feels good Wednesday. Wada is on the 60-day disabled list, which makes him eligible to be activated June 1. "I like the way he's progressing and presenting himself as an option," said manager Buck Showalter. "It's encouraging." Showalter confirmed that Josh Stinson will start Wednesday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays. Stinson was the choice after Showalter consulted with director of player development Brian Graham, Triple-A Norfolk manager Ron Johnson and pitching coach Mike Griffin. "We had some options there, and they thought he was a tick more ready," Showalter said. "They really like what's going on with Zach (Britton). Wanted to make sure the blister's resolved, and they think it is. He's had two good outings. They think he's very close to being able to help us." Britton will start Thursday for Norfolk. Stinson was assigned No. 60, which most recently belonged to outfielder Chris Dickerson. "He had a good arm," Showalter said. "He's fastball, slurvy-slider, changeup. I haven't seen him other than tape and reading reports and listening to those guys. I'm anxious to see him. He has good stuff. That's why we claimed him. Talked to some people about why he was out there. "He's 25 years old. He's a couple years younger than some people we currently have on the 40-man who are options for us pitching." It's not necessarily a one-and-done start for Stinson. The Orioles don't have another off-day until May 6. "Ask me after Wednesday if it was one shot," Showalter said. "I hope not. I hope he pitches well and he pitches again Monday in Seattle. But if he has some struggles and we have to use up a lot of the bullpen ... I don't see any off-days coming unless I misread the schedule. We're going to keep our bullets healthy, as much as we can." Taylor Teagarden will catch Stinson on Wednesday, since the Orioles are playing a 12:35 p.m. game. "Tea needs to catch, too," Showalter said. "He does a good job." Second baseman Brian Roberts still hasn't been cleared to begin baseball activities. He's continuing to do exercises for his right knee, including jogging on an underwater treadmill. Nick Markakis and Adam Jones are tied with the most walk-off hits in Camden Yards history with six. Cal Ripken Jr. and Rafael Palmeiro each had five. Matt Wieters has four. In his last seven appearances, closer Jim Johnson is 1-0 with five saves and a .091 batting average against. He's allowed two singles in 22 at-bats. The Orioles rank fifth in fielding percentage in the American League at .990. Since April 14, they're first in the league at .996.
