Johan Santana and game updates (updated twice)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Free agent pitcher Johan Santana stopped by the Ed Smith Stadium complex today, and the Orioles are nearing an agreement on a minor league deal. Former executive Jim Duquette, in camp today with MLB Radio Network, tweeted that Santana got into his car and drove away from the complex. Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez posted a photo of himself with Santana on Instagram. Welcome to today's media. A team official confirmed that Santana was here, and a source said a minor league deal is almost completed. Santana, 34, hasn't pitched since 2012 due to surgery last April to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder. This was his second such procedure. The Orioles were among seven teams that watched him throw last week. A report in the New York Post stated that Santana's fastball was sitting 77-78 miles per hour while topping out at 81. The Orioles likely would assign him to minor league camp at Twin Lakes Park. The two-time Cy Young Award winner is 139-78 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 major league seasons. As for today's game, Bud Norris threw 20 of his 34 pitches for strikes in two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two. Nelson Cruz made a sliding catch near the right field line to rob Chris Parmelee leading off the second inning. Kevin Gausman retired the first five batters he faced, striking out two, before walking Chris Colabello and allowing back-to-back singles to Jason Kubel and Wilken Ramirez to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. Colabello scored on Ramirez's single up the middle. Kubal was out at third base. Gausman threw 24 pitches, 15 for strikes. His fastball kept touching the mid-90s. Twins center fielder Darin Mastroianni reached over the fence in left-center to rob Cruz of a home run leading off the bottom of the second. Nick Markakis reached on a ground-rule double in the first and a single leading off the fourth. Update: I'm told that the Orioles have an agreement in place with Santana. He just hasn't signed yet, so it's not "official." Santana could be used as a reliever once he's able to pitch. He may be at least a few months away from it. The Orioles tied the game in the fourth on singles by Markakis and Adam Jones, and an error on pitcher Aaron Thompson. Update II: Darren O'Day and Tommy Hunter each threw a scoreless inning, with Hunter retiring the side in order, and Chris Davis broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.
