Jones approaching another milestone

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Orioles center fielder Adam Jones broke up John Lackey's no-hit bid last night with a home run in the seventh inning. When Jones crossed home plate, he needed only two more runs to become the fourth Orioles outfielder to hit 30 homers and record at least 100 runs and 100 RBIs in the same season. He's on the verge of joining Frank Robinson (1966 and 1969), Brady Anderson (1996) and Albert Belle (1999), according to STATS. The Orioles have 10 games remaining. Can Jones do it? Jones has scored 29 runs against the Rays since the start of the 2011 season, the most by any opposing player. Since breaking into the majors in 2009, catcher Matt Wieters' .333 average (83-for-249) against the Rays is the fourth-highest among players with at least 150 plate appearances. His 51 RBIs are the second-most against the Rays, and his 15 homers are tied for third. Wieters' 15 homers are his most against any opponent. He's hit 12 against the Yankees. Wieters is batting .343 (12-for-35) lifetime against left-hander David Price, with five doubles and a home run. Danny Valencia is 9-for-12 with two doubles. J.J. Hardy is batting .313 (10-for-32) with four doubles. Jones is 8-for-38 (.211) with three doubles and 10 strikeouts vs. Price. The Orioles' pitching staff has posted a 3.17 ERA in 18 games this month, second-lowest in the American League behind the Indians (3.00). Their .222 opponents' batting average in September is also second-lowest in the AL. The bullpen has posted a league-best 1.67 ERA this month, and it hasn't allowed a run spanning 19 innings in six games of the current road trip - holding opponents to 13 hits and a .197 average.
