Jones in studio, Jones in Venezuela (and a note)

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones has landed another studio gig during the playoffs. Jones will work as a TBS guest analyst on Oct. 8-10, joining Keith Olbermann, Pedro Martinez, Tom Verducci and Dirk Hayhurst on set. Jones should be properly warmed up for the assignment. His studio debut comes on Sunday and Monday as a guest analyst on the MLB Network. If Jones is in need of some rest, he may have to wait until spring training. Meanwhile, minor league pitcher Chris Jones - no relation - tweeted this afternoon that he's headed to the field to join his Caribes teammates in the Venezuelan Winter League. The Orioles must decide whether to put Jones on the 40-man roster and protect him in the Rule 5 draft. Jones, acquired from the Braves on April 10 for reliever Luis Ayala, allowed two runs in seven innings at Double-A Bowie, with no walks and six strikeouts. Moved up a level, he went 4-4 with a 2.67 ERA in 31 games at Triple-A Norfolk. Jones, 25, held left-handers to a .196 average at Norfolk, while right-handers batted .311 against him. Could he compete for a job as a lefty specialist in spring training? Stay tuned. Note: Baseball America's Matt Eddy tweeted that Triple-A Norfolk reliever Jairo Asencio and catcher Taylor Teagarden have elected to become free agents. More names will surface during the month. Again, stay tuned.
