Lee stays hot (updated twice)

WASHINGTON - Adam Jones singled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning to score J.J. Hardy, and Derrek Lee followed with a double to increase the Orioles' lead to 5-2. That's it for Nationals left-hander Tom Gorzelanny. The Orioles have salvaged the inning after a highly questionable send by third base coach John Russell resulted in pitcher Chris Jakubauskas being thrown out at the plate by a wide margin. Jakubauskas collected his first major league hit, a single leading off the inning. We're told that he's the best hitter on the pitching staff. Sure looks it to me. Hardy followed with a double, making him 2-for-3 with a home run, but Russell sent Jakubauskas with no outs. Right fielder Jayson Werth mishandled the ball before making the throw to second baseman Danny Espinosa. We had a near collision at home plate after catcher Wilson Ramos caught Espinosa's relay and waited on Jakubauskas. Hardy scored on Jones' single, and Lee collected his 17th RBI of the season, and his ninth hit of this series. He looks like a pretty good cleanup hitter despite the double play in the third. Let's see how Jakubauskas responds after allowing two runs in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back, two-out doubles by Michael Morse and Espinosa, and his adventure on the basepaths. It's been an adventure for the Nationals' fielders. They've bobbled at least four balls. Instant update: Roger Bernadina homered to right-center field with two outs in the fifth. Orioles 5, Nationals 3. Update II: Mark Reynolds hit his 13th home run leading off the sixth. Orioles 6, Nationals 3. Jakubauskas collected his second hit. Who needs the DH? Manager Buck Showalter let Jakubauskas bat before removing him from the game. Jim Johnson is entering from the bullpen. Jakubauskas allowed three runs and six hits, with one intentional walk and six strikeouts. He threw 88 pitches, 56 for strikes.
