M. Gonzalez and Schlosser dealing in Sarasota (updated)

SARASOTA, Fla. - David Lough had a leadoff double in the first inning today for the Orioles. That's their only hit. Braves right-hander Gus Schlosser, making only his second spring start, retired 12 Orioles in a row. But he's losing 1-0 because Miguel Gonzalez is keeping Atlanta off the board. Some serious dealing going on here in Sarasota. Gonzalez is proving to be a good substitute. He replaced Chris Tillman as today's starter and has faced one batter over the minimum through five innings. Gonzalez has allowed three singles, but he's been aided by two double plays. He's thrown only 55 pitches through the fifth. No one is warming in the bullpen, so Gonzalez will be the first Orioles pitcher to go six innings. Tillman and Bud Norris have completed five innings. The Braves saw only six pitches in the first, 12 in the second, nine in the third and 11 in the fourth. They actually worked Gonzalez for 17 in the fifth, which began with Chris Johnson's leadoff single into right field. Gonzalez struck out Dan Uggla and Steven Lerud, a former Orioles farmhand. Update: Gonzalez became the first Orioles pitcher to work past the fifth inning this spring. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, walking none and striking out five. Gonzalez came back out for the sixth with his pitch count at 55 and threw 18 while retiring the Braves in order. Gonzalez has allowed three runs in 13 innings over three appearances since being hit on the shin by a line drive on March 7. Alex Gonzalez singled leading off the bottom of the sixth for the Orioles' first hit since Lough doubled in the first. He took third on an error with one out, but Chris Davis struck out and Nelson Cruz flied to the warning track in center field.
