Markakis comments on the end of long series hitting streak

In losing last night, two Orioles hitting streaks ended, a 13-gamer by J.J. Hardy and a 10-game streak by Mark Reynolds. In losing today, Nick Markakis went hitless for the third game in a row in this series and his 182-series hitting streak ended as he went 0-for-3 with two walks today and 0-for-8 with four walks in this series.

"All good things come to an end. In this game it is very hard to be consistent and that is what you shoot for. It is what it is. It doesn't bother me either way. We ended up losing the game and I am bothered by that more," Markakis said after the game. The 182-series hit streak was the longest current streak in the majors. Markakis had recorded a hit in each series since being held hitless against Tampa Bay May 23-25, 2008. Markakis' bat has cooled in recent games and he is now 4-for-34 (.118) over his last 10 games without an RBI in that stretch as his season average drops to .282. Today he grounded out three times and he made the last out in one last attempt to continue the streak, with a ground out to second off Frank Francisco in the ninth. "Everybody knows they can hit. They go up there and swing the bats. They got the better end of this series," he said of a Blue Jays offense that scored 26 runs in this series.
