The Mets put David Wright back in the lineup and he delivered quickly.
In the top of the first, Wright took a Tanner Roark 0-1 offering and drove it over the left field wall. The Mets lead 1-0.
Roark allowed a single and a walk in the second.
Before the Mets took the field for defense in the bottom of the first, Matt Reynolds entered the game at shortstop. Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was listed as the starter, but did not play because of back spasms.
Mets left-hander Steven Matz got out of the first despite a Daniel Murphy single.
After one and a half innings, Mets lead the Nats 1-0.
Update: Roark has done a nice job of setting the Mets down. He has held them scoreless for three straight innings. The only other hit was from Neil Walker in the second.
Matz has kept the Nats off the board despite base hits from Michael A. Taylor and Wilson Ramos since Murphy got on base in the first.
Mets still lead 1-0 after four frames.
Update II: Nationals hitting coach Rcik Schu was ejected in the bottom of the fifth after a high strike three call to Chris Heisey. Home plate umpire DJ Reyburn tossed Schu from the game.
Update III: The Mets added a run in the seventh, aided by a fielding error by Daniel Murphy. With Matt Reynolds at first and one out, Eric Campbell grounder to second was booted by Murphy. With men on first and third, Rene Rivera slapped a single to left to score the run from third and the Mets lead 2-0.
Roark finished seven innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), two walks and seven strikeouts. He tossed 113 pitches, 75 for strikes.
Update IV: Bryce Harper pinch-hit in the eighth with a man on and two outs. He grounded out to second base to end the inning. After eight innings, the Mets lead 2-0.
Matz finished eight innings and allowed no runs on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.
Update V: Against Mets closer Jeurys Familia in the bottom of the ninth, Jayson Werth and Murphy singled to left field to start the inning.
Ryan Zimmerman struck out on a 98 mph sinker. Anthony Rendon grounded into a force out at second, reached first safely. Werth went to third. WIth two outs, Ramos grounded out to third to end the game.
The Mets win 2-0 over the Nationals.
