Mike Wright talks about his outing against Boston

To say the least, Orioles right-hander Mike Wright was pretty upset about his poor start. He feels good out there physically but is just not getting the results right now.

Tonight, he gave up six hits and six runs in three-plus innings as the Orioles lost 10-1 to Boston. Dustin Pedroia hit two homers tonight, the first off Wright plating two runs in the third. It was a pitch that was nowhere near its intended target.

"The home run I gave up to Pedroia was a belt-high slider. I could have hit that out. There were a lot of problems," Wright said as he falls to 2-5 with an ERA of 6.33.

"I never thought that. It (stinks) when you come out of the game, but I never gave up. I felt good," Wright said. "I felt good all my starts. That is what is really tough. I feel good about it but still get hit all over the yard."

Since he rejoined the Orioles early this month, Wright is 0-2 with an ERA of 9.75, allowing 13 runs and 17 hits in 12 innings over three starts. Was the issue tonight more the quality of his pitches or the location?

"My location tonight was way better than it was last game. I mean, just because it was better doesn't mean it is what works," he said.

Wright has not recorded a quality start over his last seven outings, going 1-5 with a 9.88 ERA. The six runs he allowed tonight were a career high.

"It (stinks). This isn't fun at all," Wright said.

J.J. Hardy talked about the Orioles' lack of offense against Boston left-hander Henry Owens, who pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings.

"We just weren't able to make adjustments. He was throwing a lot of changeups, some curveballs. He kept us off-balance and we weren't able to make the adjustments we needed to," Hardy said. "This is not one we need to dwell on. We need to go to Tampa and play good baseball like we have been.

"We are going out there trying to win every game. Nobody here is giving up, and that is the way we are going to go about it."

Jason Garcia pitched a scoreless sixth inning. That was his ninth scorless appearance over his past 11 outings. and he has an ERA of 2.51 in that stretch. Jonathan Schoop extended his hitting streak to nine games and is 12-for-37 (.324) in that stretch. Manny Machado is batting .304 (17-for-56) over his past 15 games. Over his last 91 games, he is batting .309 with 21 homers and 50 RBIs.
