According to STATS, Machado's 30 doubles in 68 games are the most by any player under age 22 since 1920, topping Williams' 25 in 1939 and Joe DiMaggio's 24 in 1936. Machado is on pace for 71 doubles. The major league record in a season is 67 by Earl Webb for Boston in 1931. The Orioles record is 56, set by Brian Roberts in 2009. Machado leads the majors with 30 doubles, and Chris Davis leads with 22 homers. According to STATS, the only time in the modern era of baseball that teammates finished outright leaders in doubles and homers in the same season was 1927, when Lou Gehrig had 52 doubles and Babe Ruth hit 60 homers. Machado leads the majors with 95 hits. In his last 48 games, he has 22 multi-hit games and is batting .347 (76-for-219) with 24 doubles, two triples, three homers, 24 RBIs and 32 runs scored. In his career, the Orioles are 56-30 (.651) when he gets a hit and 16-17 (.485) when he does not. In non-Machado news, the Orioles still haven't received a letter from first baseman Travis Ishikawa officially opting out of his contract, though it's expected to happen. Executive vice president Dan Duquette said the club would have a few days to make a decision. The Orioles are exploring trade options. Nick Markakis singled and Adam Jones reached on an infield hit to score Machado and increase the lead to 2-0. Garcia threw nine pitches, eight for strikes, while retiring the side in order in the top of the first inning. Lackey threw 24 pitches, 16 for strikes, in the bottom half.
