Nationals Agree to Terms with Reliever Ron Villone

The Washington Nationals today agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Ron Villone on a minor-league contract that includes a Spring Training invitation. Nationals Senior Vice President & General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Villone went 5-6 with seven holds, one save and a 4.25 ERA in a team-leading 63 appearances for the Nationals in 2009. Villone, who signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on April 11, 2009, paced the Nationals with five relief wins last year. On 23 occasions in 2009, he pitched on zero days' rest and recorded a 2.81 ERA in those contests.
The 40 year-old Villone is 61-65 with 92 holds and a 4.73 ERA (614 ER/1168.0 IP) in 717 games (93 starts) spanning 15 seasons with Seattle, San Diego, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Pittsburgh, Florida, New York (AL), St. Louis and Washington.
