Zach Eflin, who’s celebrating his 31st birthday today, underwent testing on his right shoulder after experiencing fatigue last night. He allowed one run in six innings for his third quality start but threw only 73 pitches and experienced a dip in velocity.
“Just fatigue,” Eflin told the media last night. “I think it was precautionary. … I’m pretty optimistic.”
Manager Brandon Hyde told the assembled media that reliever Colin Selby is on the taxi squad while a decision on Eflin is pending.
Eflin went on the injured list Aug. 20 with shoulder inflammation and was reinstated Sept. 1.
The Orioles are hosting “Marvel Day” at Camden Yards on Saturday, June 28, when they play the Rays at 4:05 p.m. The first 20,000 fans will receive a Cal Ripken Jr.|Iron Man bobblehead that depicts the Hall of Famer inspired by the popular super hero and iconic Avenger.
Ripken, of course, earned the Iron Man nickname while pursuing and breaking Lou Gehrig’s consecutive-games record.
Fans will be able to enjoy Marvel-themed activations throughout the ballpark that include trivia and various games, and Eutaw Street will be decorated for the occasion.
Ripken passed Gehrig 30 years ago, and the Orioles will continue to honor him with a celebration on Sept. 6 before their 7:05 p.m. game against the Dodgers. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
