Nationals' minor league rosters taking shape

The Nationals' minor league affiliates' regular season rosters are starting to take shape with the major league club finalizing their 25-man major league club. Here are some of the highlights of what each of the affiliates could look like this season: Single-A Hagerstown catching duties will be split by Adrian Nieto, Cole Leonida and others. I have confirmed the infielders are Matt Skole, Brett Newsome, Bryce Ortega, Cutter Dykstra and Justin Miller. Outfielders include Brian Goodwin, Caleb Ramsey and J.P. Ramirez. Alex Meyer will start his pro career on the Suns' pitching staff. At Single-A Potomac, David Frietas will be one of the catchers. Infielders are Justin Bloxom, Adrian Sanchez, Blake Kelso and Anthony Rendon. In the outfield, it will be Randolph Oduber, Kevin Keyes and Michael Taylor in Woodbridge, Va. At Double-A Harrisburg, Sandy Leon will be one of the catchers. The infield includes Tim Pahuta, Jeff Kobernus, Stephen King, Josh Johnson, Manny Mayorson, Jose Lozada and Chris McConnell. The outfielders will be Destin Hood, Eury Perez, Chris Rahl and Jesus Valdez. Pitcher Robert Gilliam, acquired in the Gio Gonzalez trade, has earned a spot on the Senators' roster. At Triple-A Syracuse, Jhonathan Solano is one of the catchers. Tyler Moore, Seth Bynum, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Carlos Rivero and Mark Teahan are a few of the infielders. The outfield will include Bryce Harper, Corey Brown and Xavier Paul. Some players went back a level but that does not mean they didn't deserve to stay where they were last season. The Nationals want to make sure that each prospect gets ample at-bats and logjams sometimes prevent players from getting chances at the level they were at in 2011. This, of course, is not a complete list and is subject to change before opening day as the Nationals finalize their 25-man roster. Infielders Zach Walters (hand) and Rick Hague (shoulder), as well as pitcher Matt Purke are staying back in extended spring training as they build strength. The Nationals want to lengthen Purke out before he tackles the rigors of a first full pro season. Walters could join his club mid to late April.
