Pregame Showalter

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter wrote out two lineups for today's game - one with Derrek Lee and one without him. He decided to list Vladimir Guerrero as the designated hitter and bring Lee off the bench. Lee continues to receive treatment on his left foot after fouling a ball off it during Sunday's game against the Phillies. "I didn't want to put him on the field with that today," Showalter said. "It feels good. He'd play during the season if he had to, but I didn't want to send him down to the minor leagues for at-bats. I think they're playing an A-ball team down there. I'd rather have him stay here." Showalter mentioned how Robert Andino can be used everywhere in the infield and also play center field if needed. Andino is competing for a utility job, and he's out of minor league options. "It has nothing to do with it, having an option or not having an option. It's, is he our best fit?" Showalter said. "The only time you use the word 'option' is, is he our best option to be an extra guy. He's got a chance. He's in the competition." Showalter also talked about Brendan Harris, who's unavailable after having a mole removed from his back. "He got six to eight stitches in there," Showalter said. "He'll be a couple of days at least, maybe four, before he can go again. That's why I've been trying to play him so much the last few days. I knew he was going to be down. He's had it before and cut out. They are obviously doing some testing on it, but it's nothing they feel like that's threatening. They just want to get it out of there." And here's a little something on Justin Duchscherer: "He's real close to being in a good place," Showalter said. "They're making strides with the strength in both hips. That's one of the things that we're going to sit down with at halftime, so to speak."
