Nats game blog: Nationals start off well thanks to the MVP

The Braves took their time coming out of the dugout to take the field on defense on opening day. First pitch was delayed by three minutes from its scheduled 4:10 p.m. ET start time.

Maybe they just didn't want to face the Nationals offense right out of the gate.

harper-swing-looking-up-sidebar.jpgThe Nationals opened the 2016 season with the National League MVP crushing a homer off of the Braves' Julio Teheran in the top of the first inning, putting his team up 1-0.

And it could have been a much bigger inning. Anthony Rendon singled prior to Bryce Harper's blast, but was caught off of first base. Ryan Zimmerman reached on an error and Daniel Murphy walked, but Jayson Werth struck out to end the first half inning.

Meanwhile, welcome to the first Nats game blog of 2016! Follow the game and chat along in the comments section below. There should be plenty to talk about!
