Nats game blog: Stephen Strasburg on a roll as he faces Phillies again

The Nationals need a win again today against the Phillies.

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg makes his final home start of the season. He is 10-7 with a 3.81 ERA. He will take on right-hander Aaron Nola (6-2, 3.84).

Since August 8, Strasburg is No. 1 in the National League with a 12.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio and No. 1 in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.38. His WHIP is second in the league at 0.75, as well as batting average against (.176).

Strasburg is 7-2 with a 2.68 ERA in 15 career starts versus the Phillies.

Interesting stat: The Nationals offense has scored 682 runs, good for third in the National League. They are also third in home runs in NL with 168.

So if the starters are pretty good and the offense is pretty good, then the bullpen has not been above average. The Nationals have also had a tough time putting together big innings. Many times it would appear the Nationals would be set up for a big inning, get one or two runs, but then ground into a double play or leave the bases loaded.

The Nationals lead the season series with the Phillies 11-6.
