Nats, Marlins moving along in D.C. (Nats come back to win 4-2)

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg came out of the blocks looking strong on opening day 2017. Pitching out of the stretch, he did not allow the Marlins a hit through the first three innings, striking out two.

Strasburg hit 98 mph in a 1-2-3 first frame. He also enjoyed a 1-2-3 second inning, inducing three straight infield groundouts.

The Nationals struck out four straight times before Stephen Drew and Matt Wieters softly grounded out to end the second.

Volquez managed the first hit against Strasburg in the top of the third. The hot-shot liner skipped past the pitcher's mound to Strasburg's right. He got out of the inning unscathed.

Eaton doubled with two outs in the bottom of the third, but Bryce Harper flew out to end the threat.

After three full innings, there is no score.

Update: The Marlins got to Strasburg in the fourth with two runs on three hits, highlighted by doubles off the bats of J.T. Realmuto and Giancarlo Stanton. Marcell Ozuna brought Stanton home with a single up the middle. The Marlins score first, lead 2-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Update II: The Nationals started fast in the fourth with back-to-back singles from Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmerman. But the rally faded when Volquez struck out Jayson Werth and Drew grounded into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

Update III: Harper connects over the right-center field wall with a solo home run in the sixth. His fifth opening day homer, this one off reliever David Phelps, cuts the deficit to 2-1.

Update IV: Adam Lind smacked a dramatic pinch-hit two-run homer off Phelps with two outs in the seventh to give the Nats a 3-2 lead.

Update V: The Nationals added an insurance run in the eighth. Marlins reliever Junichi Tazawa allowed walks to Eaton and Harper. Murphy singled to right to score Eaton and the Nats led 4-2.

Blake Treinen made his first appearance of the season as a closer in the ninth. He got Stanton to pop out to first and struck out Justin Bour on a 3-2 slider. Ozuna struck out looking.

It is his first save of the season and second save of his career.

Nats win 4-2 and begin season 1-0.
