NEW YORK - Greetings from Citi Field on a slightly muggy but otherwise nice day. Looks like we'll avoid the storm clouds that apparently are hovering around those of you back in the mid-Atlantic region.
There was a point where I wasn't sure whether I'd make it here at all. The cab driver I had take me to my hotel was quite possibly the worst driver I've ever seen. I'm not 100 percent sure he'd ever driven a car prior to today. Luckily, I'm here safe and sound.
Tonight the Nationals will get their third look at Mets phenom Matt Harvey and their second this season.
Harvey threw seven fantastic innings against the Nats on April 19 here at Citi Field, allowing just one run and striking out seven. He bested Stephen Strasburg in that game, leading to chants of, "Harvey's better!" from the crowd here in New York.
The Nats, however, are far from the only team Harvey's dominated this year.
The right-hander is 7-1 with a National League-best 2.05 ERA this season. He's struck out 121 and walked just 24 in 110 innings, allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts and surrendered no more than six hits in any of those four outings.
The numbers are only more impressive for Harvey at home; he has a 1.82 ERA in nine Citi Field starts.
Yeah, the guy is kinda good.
Ross Detwiler goes tonight for the Nats, looking to get back on track after a couple of rough outings. Detwiler made it through just 3 2/3 innings his last time out against the Rockies, allowing nine hits and seven runs before getting the hook.
In his three outings since coming off the DL with a back strain, Detwiler has pitched to a 8.59 ERA in 14 2/3 innings, allowing 22 hits and 14 runs. Opposing batters are hitting .355 off him in that time.
He'll face a soft-looking Mets lineup, but believe it or not, the Mets have actually scored 0.4 more runs per game than the Nationals have this season.
