The Nationals will conduct their first strength and conditioning camp for select prospects starting next week at the training facility in Viera, Fla., according to Nationals director of player development Doug Harris.
Twenty young players - 12 pitchers and eight position players - will participate. The camp begins Monday, Nov. 4 and runs for five days.
"It is an opportunity to give our young players an introduction to their offseason strength and conditioning program," said Harris. "They can then have a set program for the offseason."
Strength and conditioning coordinator Landon Brandes will run the program and will be aided by three other strength coaches from the organization.
Pitchers such as Lucas Giolito, Jake Johansen, Jefry Rodriguez, A.J. Cole and Robbie Ray are some of the participants.
Harris said other teams have these types of camps and this will give the Nats' young players the opportunity to get into a regimented offseason strength training program that they can use until spring training. The players can then take this knowledge and employ aspects of the conditioning program in their year-round workouts.
