O's interim manager Juan Samuel said today that Brad Bergesen will join the Orioles tomorrow and that Koji Uehara could be activated as soon as Saturday.
The O's will then likely be facing two roster moves over the next few days, to activate Bergesen to make Saturday's start and another move to get Uehara back active.
Samuel today said those moves would probably involve removing one pitcher and one position player from the 25-man active roster.
Koji pitched a simulated inning today, facing hitters on the field at Camden Yards before batting practice.
"Koji threw the ball very, very well. We're going to wait and see how he feels tomorrow and then he'll probably be activated if everything goes well," Samuel said.
"All his pitches looked good today. We have a lot of one inning guys in the bullpen so I think we can use him here instead of sending him out (on a rehab assignment)."
Koji has not pitched for the Orioles since May 19. He went on the DL for the second time this season on May 25 with a right forearm strain. In five innings on the season, he has given up just one run and three hits.
Bergesen pitched five innings on Monday for Triple-A Norfolk, allowing five hits and two runs, throwing 85 pitches. The right-hander is 3-4, 6.50 in 12 games, ten starts, for the Birds this year.
Samuel said Felix Pie is on his way to Frederick to play with the Keys for about three or four days and then move on to Bowie.
Meanwhile, the Delmarva Shorebirds activated IF Tyler Townsend off their disabled list and OF T.J. Baxter was placed on the DL, retroactive to 6/22.
