O's game blog: A look at the Orioles' chance to tie a team record

If the Orioles can pull out wins tonight and tomorrow at Cleveland, they can tie a club record. The Orioles are looking for their ninth consecutive series win. They have won nine in a row twice before. The O's did that from July 31 to Aug. 27,1968 and they did it over two seasons from Sept. 18, 1995 to April 18, 1996. The O's have won eight series in a row four times in club history, including the current streak. Over the last 10 games, the Orioles have scored seven runs or more five times, but have also scored two or less three times. They've scored seven, nine, one, two, 12, 10, three, 11, five and one run in that stretch of games. A look at some hitters recently: * Nelson Cruz is 9-for-27 with two homers and six RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak. * Chris Davis is 2-for-19 with 10 strikeouts his last five games. * Adam Jones went 0-for-5 last night to snap a five-game hitting streak, during which he went 9-for-21. * J.J. Hardy is 13-for-27 over his last seven games with four doubles, two homers and eight RBIs. * Jonathan Schoop is 8-for-26 over his last eight games with three homers and five RBIs. On the mound tonight, Ubaldo Jimenez (4-8, 4.51 ERA) faces right-hander Carlos Carrasco (4-4, 3.60 ERA). Jimenez came off the disabled list to make his last start and got the win, giving up three runs in six innings against St. Louis. Even though the Orioles are just 7-12 when he starts, they have won his past four starts. The Orioles have started three of their last four road trips with walk-off losses. They lost in that fashion July 5 at Boston, July 18 at Oakland and last night. But they have not had a losing road trip this year. The Orioles are 24-54 all-time at Progressive Field, going 6-11 there since 2009. The Orioles' 7 1/2 game lead atop the American League East is their largest since Sept. 13, 1997.
