O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces David Price at Camden Yards

After making starts this season opposite Tampa Bay's Jake Odorizzi, Cleveland's Trevor Bauer, Colorado's Jon Gray, Texas' Yu Darvish, Chicago's James Shields and San Francisco's Matt Cain, Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy (6-3, 2.93 ERA) tonight faces 2012 AL Cy Young Winner David Price (10-8, 4.29 ERA) of the Boston Red Sox.

Bundy-Spring-Throws-White.jpgBundy is 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA in his six starts and the Orioles are 4-2 in those games, winning the last three. Over 32 2/3 innings in those games, Bundy has allowed only 20 hits for a .174 batting average with eight walks and 36 strikeouts. Over his past four starts, he has given up just 10 hits in 80 at-bats for a .125 batting average.

Over his last 12 games since June 9, Bundy has pitched to an ERA of 1.91 with 12 walks and 55 strikeouts in 47 innings. Bundy has faced Boston three times this year, all in relief, going 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA. Over 5 1/3 innings, he has allowed 10 hits and two runs.

Price is making his 26th start. Over his last three, he is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. His monthly ERA has been 4.00 or higher in four of five months this season, going lower only in July at 2.80. In 12 road starts, he is 3-5 with a 4.34 ERA.

In two 2016 starts versus Baltimore, Price is 0-1 with a 5.54 ERA, allowing eight earned runs in 13 innings with two walks and 19 strikeouts. In 21 career starts versus the Orioles, Price is 8-5 with a 2.93 ERA and WHIP of 1.182.

In this preview from ESPN, it is noted that Price leads the majors in allowing eight first-pitch home runs this year. The Orioles lead the American League in hitting 34 first-pitch homers.

With Toronto's 7-4 win at New York today, the Blue Jays improved to 69-52 and will lead the AL East by one game over tonight's winner here and by two games over tonight's losing team. The Orioles and Boston are both 66-52.

The Orioles are 6-5 against Boston on the season, including a 2-3 mark at Camden Yards. They went 7-2 at home versus Boston last year. Since the 2012 season, the Orioles are 52-34 (.605) against the Red Sox.

After losing 5-3 to Boston last night, the Orioles offense has produced three or fewer runs in eight of the last 13 games (going 6-7) and 18 times in 31 games (going 15-16) since the All-Star break.
