O's game blog: Dylan Bundy faces the Yankees at Camden Yards

After starting the season 4-1 followed by back-to-back losses to Toronto and the New York Yankees, the Orioles host New York again tonight. It's game two of a three-game series and seven-game homestand to begin the home schedule.

In Thursday's home opener, New York bashed four homers in an 8-4 win. The Orioles led 4-1 in the fifth inning, but the Yankees scored the game's final seven runs. They hit a pair of three-run homers off the Baltimore bullpen as Gleyber Torres connected off Mike Wright and Luke Voit off Miguel Castro.

Voit is batting .351/455/.838 in 10 career games versus the Orioles, going 13-for-37 with six homers and 18 RBIs. In four career games at Camden Yards, he is 8-for-16 with four homers and 10 RBIs.

Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy (0-0, 7.36 ERA) faced the Yankees in his first outing. On Sunday in the Bronx he took a no-decision. Over 3 2/3 innings he allowed two hits and three runs with five walks and seven strikeouts on 93 pitches. He threw 58 four-seam fastballs that day that averaged 91 mph and topped at 93.

Bundy went 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in starts last season against New York. In 10 career games (eight starts) versus the Yankees, he is 2-5 with a 6.28 ERA and 1.674 WHIP. He's allowed eight homers over 43 innings.

This will be Bundy's 49th career appearance (38th start) against an American League East opponent. He is 11-19 with a 5.26 ERA, 86 walks and 201 strikeouts in his first 48 games. In 27 career games (20 starts) at home against the division, he has gone 6-10 with a 4.82 ERA.

Left-hander J.A. Happ (0-1, 9.00 ERA) gets the start for New York. He faced the Orioles in his 2019 season debut and took the loss. Over four innings he gave up five hits and four runs and allowed homers to Renato Núñez and Trey Mancini.

That outing snapped Happ's 10-game streak of allowing three runs or fewer versus Baltimore since July 30, 2016. He had posted a 2.25 ERA over the span. Happ allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts against the Orioles, going 3-3 with a 2.47 ERA. He went 3-0 with a 1.55 ERA in five starts versus Baltimore in 2018. In 21 career games (20 starts) he is 7-7 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.193 WHIP and averages 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Outfielder Dwight Smith Jr. went 1-for-5 in Thursday's home opener. He has now hit safely in each of his seven games, a career-high hitting streak. He is batting .321 (9-for-28) with three doubles, five runs scored and two RBIs.

On the farm: Right-hander Hunter Harvey made his season debut today for Double-A Bowie in the first game of a doubleheader at Harrisburg. Over 4 2/3 innings he gave up 10 hits and five runs with one walk, six strikeouts and two homers.

In the opener of a twinbill in Frederick, lefty DL Hall made his Carolina League debut for the Keys. Over three innings in a loss to Winston-Salem he gave up three hits and one run with two walks and six strikeouts on 71 pitches.
