O's game blog: Orioles have won eight of 10 heading into Philly series

As one winning streak came to an end on Sunday, the Orioles will look to start another tonight when they host the Philadelphia Phillies at Camden Yards. The teams are scheduled to play the next two nights in Baltimore and then Wednesday and Thursday in Philadelphia.

Tonight's game is not starting on a time. The tarp is on the field and we're in a rain delay as the scheduled game time approaches. But just moments ago the Orioles announced a planned 7:30 p.m. start time for the game.

chen pitching white sidebar.jpgThe Phillies have the majors worst record at 22-42 and have lost six in a row and nine of their last 10 games.

Over the weekend, they got swept at Pittsburgh, losing by 1-0, 4-3 and 1-0 scores. The Phillies went 1-for-25 with runners in scoring position in that series.

Phillies starting pitchers have not earned a win since May 23 at Washington, a span of 19 games. Over that stretch, Phils starters are 0-11 with a 5.53 ERA, which is the worst ERA by any starting staff in the majors since May 24.

The Phillies, who are 7-26 on the road, have scored just 11 runs during their six-game losing streak. The Phillies have lost each of their last 10 games away from Citizens Bank Park, which is their longest road losing streak since they dropped 11 straight from July 20 to Aug. 11, 2013.

You read some of these stats and it's pretty clear the Phillies have earned their terrible record.

The Orioles, while they are 8-2 over their last 10 games, hope to soon start getting some deeper outings from their starting pitchers. O's starters have pitched fewer than six innings for eight consecutive games and less than seven innings for 14 straight contests.

The Orioles are 26-22 all-time in the regular-season against the Phillies, going 7-2 in the last three series, playing one each in 2006, 2009 and 2012. The O's are 13-14 at home against Philadelphia.

On the mound tonight, Wei-Yin Chen (2-4, 3.21 ERA) faces right-hander Aaron Harang (4-7, 3.04 ERA). Chen leads the O's staff with seven quality starts and the O's are 7-5 when he starts this year. He has never faced Philadelphia and has a career interleague record of 4-4 with a 4.88 ERA.

Harang had an ERA of 2.02 through his first 11 starts, before giving up 12 runs in 11 2/3 innings over his past two starts. In six home starts he is 2-3 with a 1.98 ERA and in seven on the road, he is 2-4 with a 4.07 ERA.
