O's game blog: Right-hander Alex Cobb faces Toronto

TORONTO - The Orioles are 1-7 against the Toronto Blue Jays this season and 0-5 at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays have won three of those five games in walk-off fashion by one run in the tenth inning. That includes Friday's 8-7 win over the Orioles.

The Orioles (28-70) are 4-7 in extra-innings games, 11-26 in games against the AL East and 12-37 on the road. While they did score seven runs last night, they went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Over the past 15 games, the Orioles are 14-for-98 (.143).

The Orioles were down 7-2 last night when they scored twice on a Chris Davis homer in the eighth. They scored three times in the ninth for a 7-7 tie which came about on Jonathan Schoop's homer with two outs. Davis hit his third homer in 10 games and sixth in his last 24. He has 39 career homers versus Toronto, his most against any team. He has hit 31 against the Yankees, the second-most versus any team.

Schoop is batting .355 (22-for-62) in 16 games in July with six doubles, three homers and five RBIs. Schoop batted .144 in 25 games in June.

Toronto (44-52) is 9-4 in extra innings games and 13-12 in one-run contests. The Blue Jays have won five straight against the Orioles, their longest win streak since taking 12 in a row during the 2010 season.

Orioles right-hander Alex Cobb (2-12, 6.41 ERA) will make his 18th start today. On June 10 at Toronto he allowed a season-high nine runs on 11 hits in just 3 2/3. Cobb has recorded eight quality starts, but the Orioles are 3-14 in his 17 outings. His last win was June 5 against the New York Mets. In eight day game starts, Cobb is 0-8 with an ERA of 8.27.

Right-hander Marcus Stroman (2-7, 5.86 ERA) gets the ball for Toronto. Stroman is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA his past three starts. From May 9 to June 23 he was on the DL with right shoulder fatigue. Stroman, who is 1-3 with an ERA of 7.33 at home, has not started this season against Baltimore.

Orioles Hall of Famer Mike Bordick celebrates his 53rd birthday today. Bordick, now an Orioles broadcaster for MASN, enjoyed a 14-year MLB career in which he hit .260 with 91 home runs, 626 RBIs, a .982 fielding percentage and exactly 1,500 hits. Bordick was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame in 2011.
