O's held scoreless until the ninth in 3-1 loss against Tampa Bay

For the Orioles it was a matter of another day and another game with not much offense. By not much, they had a single by Manny Machado to lead off the game and just two hits after that in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in a game started by a young pitcher making his major league debut. The Orioles were shut out on one hit heading to the ninth, but scored on a two-out, RBI double by Matt Wieters that hit the catwalk on the Tropicana Field roof and landed in play. Since the eighth inning on Friday night, the Orioles have scored just two runs on 10 hits over their last 29 innings. They were three-hit by six Rays pitchers. They have now lost four in a row - scoring seven total runs in that stretch - to fall to 81-74. The Orioles trail the season series against the Rays, losing 12 of 18 games and they've lost 10 of the last 12 between the two teams. The Orioles have now gone 19 consecutive games scoring five runs or less and have scored just 21 runs over the last eight games. Yet another one of Tampa's top young pitching prospects took the mound this afternoon. 22-year-old lefty Enny Romero walked four in 4 2/3 innings but the O's could not get to him as he allowed just that one hit and threw 70 pitches. Losing pitcher Scott Feldman gave up a David DeJesus leadoff homer in the first and two runs in the sixth on a Matt Joyce sac fly and a James Loney RBI single. Feldman went 6 1/3 innings allowing six hits and three runs on 91 pitches. He falls to 5-5 with an ERA of 3.57 over 14 O's starts. In his last eight starts, Feldman is 3-2 with a 2.08 ERA. Now 4-5 on a 10-game road trip that ends tomorrow, the Orioles fall to 39-41 on the road for the season and will have a losing road record in 2013, one year after posting 46 road wins to lead the American League. In the series finale, Monday at 3:10 p.m., Wei-Yin Chen (7-7, 4.03 ERA) faces right-hander Chris Archer (9-7, 3.02 ERA).
