Rays running on Feldman, Orioles running out of time (O's lose 3-1)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - While the Orioles' bats remain in a deep freeze, the Rays scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to lead 3-0. T.J. McFarland warmed in the bullpen as Scott Feldman struggled to get three outs. Desmond Jennings led off with a bunt single and was removed for a pinch-runner after pulling up slightly as he reached the bag. Feldman threw a wild pitch while walking Ben Zobrist, and Fuld hustled all the way to third base. Matt Joyce followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the Rays' lead to 2-0. Fuld was running on the pitch, and he reached third without drawing a throw from catcher Matt Wieters. Zobrist stole second, took third on Will Myers single and scored on James Loney's bloop hit into left-center field. The last five stolen bases against the Orioles have come with Feldman on the mound. He's not known for being quick to the plate. The Rays used three relievers to strike out the side in the top of the sixth. Yes, manager Joe Maddon already is playing matchups. The Orioles have scored one run in their last 26 innings. They've been held to one hit today. And a road trip that began with such promise in Boston has unraveled. Update: Feldman allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, with two walks, seven strikeouts, a home run and a wild pitch. He threw 91 pitches, 65 for strikes. Feldman has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last eight starts. The Orioles have now scored one run in their last 28 innings. They're still sitting on one hit today. Michael Morse is 0-for-3 today and 3-for-29 as an Oriole. Update II: Game over. The Rays have taken the first three games of this all-important series, winning today 3-1. The Orioles didn't get a hit after Manny Machado's leadoff single in the top of the first until Danny Valencia singled with two outs in the ninth. He scored on Matt Wieters' double, the ball hitting a catwalk. The Orioles have scored two runs in their last 29 innings. They're batting .186 on this road trip. The Indians won today, dropping the Orioles 4 1/2 games back in the wild card chase.
