The Orioles have a chance to win another American League East series today. So far this season, they have won five of seven series within the division.
They recently had a five-game AL East losing streak, which included being swept by Tampa Bay. That streak ended when they won the last two games of the Yankees series.
Overall, they are 13-11 versus the AL East this year:
At Tampa Bay: 2-1
At Boston: 2-1
At New York: 1-2
Vs. Tampa Bay: 2-1
Vs. Toronto: 2-1
Vs. Tampa Bay: 0-3
Vs. New York: 2-1
Vs. Toronto: 2-1
By winning the last two games at Rogers Centre, they will at least split this Toronto series and need a win today to take their first four-game AL East series of 2013.
Meanwhile, it was a nice sight for the Orioles to see Miguel Gonzalez return to their rotation Tuesday against New York and pitch well. He went seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs, throwing 92 pitches in his first start since May 3.
With that blister gone - and hopefully for good now - it seemed like Gonzalez had a better feel for his secondary pitches against New York.
He has recorded five quality starts in seven outings this year and the Orioles are 4-3 when he starts. Let's see how he fares today in his second start since coming back. It's against this hot-hitting Toronto team, which has scored 23 runs on 41 hits in this series so far.
Updated: The Orioles took a 2-1 lead to the fifth inning today and, based on the first three games of this series, that qualifies this as a real pitchers' duel. Gonzalez gave up a run in the fourth, but pitched out of a second-and-third, no-outs jam thanks to a big running and leaping catch in center by Adam Jones to rob Anthony Gose of extra bases.
Matt Wieters delivered an RBI double and Danny Valencia an RBI groundout when the O's took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
In this series, 18 of the 24 runs the O's have scored have come in the first three innings.
The Orioles' 62 road wins since the start of 2012 leads all of major league baseball and they are looking to add one to that this afternoon.
