Orioles acquire De Aza from White Sox (we're tied again)

The Orioles have made a trade 24 hours before the deadline for adding players who may be included on the playoff roster, acquiring outfielder Alejandro De Aza from the White Sox for minor league pitchers Miguel Chalas and Mark Blackmar.

De Aza, 30, batted .243/.309/.354 (96-for-395) with five home runs, 31 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 122 games for the White Sox. He's a career .268/.331/.398 hitter in 545 major league games.

De Aza, a left-handed hitter, plays all three outfield positions and owns a .986 career fielding percentage.

Chalas, 22, was 3-4 with a 4.48 ERA in 30 relief appearances between Triple-A Norfolk (two games) and Single-A Frederick (28). He was 24-21 with a 3.73 ERA in five minor league seasons.

Blackmar, 22, was 10-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 26 games (18 starts) for Frederick in 2014. In four seasons in the Orioles organization, Blackmar was 21-13 with a 3.75 ERA.

We're waiting to speak with executive vice president Dan Duquette. We also need to find out whether De Aza will show up Monday when rosters can expand.

De Aza, who spent his first two major league seasons with the Marlins, isn't eligible for free agency until 2016.

It's fair to wonder how this deal will impact David Lough, a left-handed-hitting outfielder who has been used mostly as a defensive replacement.

As for tonight's game, Jimmy Paredes hit his first home run as an Oriole to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning. It came off Twins reliever Brian Duensing.

Update: The Orioles' bullpen allowed its first run in 19 innings when Joe Mauer singled off Andrew Miller to score Brian Dozier in the seventh and tie the game 2-2.
