Orioles DFA Broxton and recall Kline (with lineups)

The Orioles have brought in a fresh bullpen arm today by recalling right-hander Branden Kline from Triple-A Norfolk and are going with a short bench by designating outfielder Keon Broxton for assignment.

Broxton homered Friday night for the first time since June 4, but he's slashing .204/.261/.350 (21-for-103) with three doubles, four home runs, nine RBIs and 49 strikeouts in 112 plate appearances over 37 games. The Orioles acquired him from the Mets on May 22 for international signing bonus slots.

Because Broxton is out of options, he'd have to clear waivers before the Orioles could send him to the minors. In the meantime, Anthony Santander will get more opportunities in center field, along with super-utility player Stevie Wilkerson.

Broxton had been 3-for-31 and 10-for-74 before homering against the Red Sox in the series opener.

The Orioles have two openings on their 40-man roster.

Kline is a fresh arm after Tanner Scott worked three innings last night and Jimmy Yacabonis, pitching on back-to-back nights, allowed nine of 10 batters to reach base.

Kline has allowed 19 earned runs (20 total) in 25 1/3 innings with the Orioles. His next appearance will be his 21st.

Santander has homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season and he's in center for today's series finale against the Red Sox that also concludes the homestand.

Next stop: Phoenix.

Santander is 28-for-75 (.373) in 19 home games and 13-for-62 (.210) in 17 road games.

No longer in a slump, Trey Mancini is 6-for-14 with three doubles and four RBIs in the last four games. He's in right field today while Chris Davis plays first base.

Thirteen of Richie Martin's 35 hits have been for extra bases. He's hit safely in three straight game to tie his career high, but he isn't starting today.

Pedro Severino is catching.

Asher Wojchiechowski is 0-3 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.340 WHIP in four games (three starts) since joining the Orioles. He's allowed 10 runs and 16 hits in 15 2/3 innings, walking five batters and striking out 21.

None of the current Red Sox have more than one at plate appearance against him. David Price owns the only hit.

Andrew Cashner returns to Camden Yards for the first time since the trade. He's 1-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 1.000 WHIP in three career starts against the Orioles, allowing five earned runs in 21 innings.

Davis is 2-for-8 with a double and three strikeouts. Mancini is 1-for-6.
