Orioles fall behind early (Dickerson homers twice)

The Yankees are 19-0 when they score first, the only team in the majors that remains undefeated. A win tonight would tie them with the 1990 Cincinnati Reds for the longest streak since 1900, according to Elias. Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez allowed a run in the first inning tonight, but he deserved a better fate. Nate McLouth ran down Brett Gardner's fly ball toward the left field line, but it glanced off his glove and was ruled a double. Gonzalez retired the next two batters on fly balls, but Travis Hafner grounded a single past second baseman Yamaico Navarro, who deflected the ball on a diving attempt. If McLouth makes the catch, Gonzalez is back in the dugout before Hafner steps to the plate. Or Navarro could have made the play. Navarro did range behind second base to backhand David Adams' bouncer and throw him out in the second inning. And he made a sensational leaping catch to rob Austin Romine leading off the third. So, make Navarro 2-for-3 in the field tonight. Gonzalez has retired seven in a row, striking out Robinson Cano on a 91 mph fastball to end the top of the third. His other two strikeouts came on an 82 mph changeup and 85 mph slider. Gonzalez hadn't started since May 3 in Anaheim because of a blister on his right thumb. McLouth singled off Yankees starter Phil Hughes in the bottom of the first, as he's expected to do. McLouth is 10-for-12 lifetime against Hughes, including the playoffs. The next three batters flied out, and Hughes retired the side in order in the second. Down on the farm, Tsuyoshi Wada has tossed four scoreless in his second injury rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk. He's allowed three hits, walked two, struck out one and hit a batter. He's thrown 73 pitches, 39 for strikes. This just in from Captain Obvious: He needs to throw more strikes. Update: Chris Dickerson homered against his former team to tie the game 1-1 in the third inning. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games after winning a 10-pitch battle with Hughes. Adam Jones flied to the fence in center field to strand two runners. The Yankees went ahead 2-1 on Vernon Wells' leadoff double in the fourth and Hafner's single. Hafner has been a nuisance in this series. Down on the farm, Wada loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth on three straight Durham singles, and Chris Jones replaced him. Jones let two inherited runners score to complete Wada's line. Wada was charged with two runs and six hits, walked two, struck out one and hit a batter. He threw 83 pitches, 47 for strikes. Update II: Dickerson is pushing for more playing time. Dickerson has notched his first career multi-homer game, taking Hughes deep again leading off the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 2-2. It's also the first two-homer game by an Oriole since Chris Davis and Manny Machado did it on Sept. 26, 2012 against the Blue Jays. Dickerson has 11 hits in his last 25 at-bats, with two doubles, three homers and eight RBIs. That's good, right?
