Orioles minor league update

We are nearly a week into the minor league seasons. To this point, the Orioles' four full-season teams have a combined record of 10-13. Norfolk is 1-4, Bowie is 5-2, Frederick is 2-3 and Delmarva is 2-4. Several pitching prospects pitched either scoreless ball or did not allow an earned run in their first starts. This list includes Kevin Gausman, Tim Berry, Hunter Harvey, Matt Taylor and Tyler Wilson. Double-A Bowie is off to the best start. Heading into today's game, the Baysox were 5-1 with a team batting average of .343 and a team ERA of 2.72. They lead the Eastern League in batting and are second in ERA. Buck Britton is off to a .440 start (11-for-25) at the plate to rank sixth in the league in batting and Cuban outfielder Dariel Alvarez is batting .360 with no homers and six RBIs. He is tied for the league lead with four doubles. Bowie lost earlier today, 5-1 to Richmond in a game that had an 11 a.m. start. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss. The Orioles' No. 3 prospect went five innings and gave up five hits and four runs, throwing 99 pitches. Through two starts, Rodriguez has an ERA of 7.20. Right-hander Eddie Gamboa is the early strikeout leader in the Triple-A International League. Through two outings, Gamboa is 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Norfolk catcher Caleb Joseph went 1-for-8 in his first two games. In his last two he is 6-for-8 with two doubles and his first Triple-A homer. He actually now has seven hits in his last nine at-bats. Single-A Frederick outfielder Glynn Davis is sixth in the Carolina League with a .429 batting average along with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Frederick lost its home opener 7-0 to Carolina last night and Mudcats right-hander Dylan Baker had a perfect game going for six innings before he was taken out. The Keys were two-hit in the loss. Branden Kline gave up two runs over six innings for the Keys and is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts. Single-A Delmarva will plays its home opener against Greensboro tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. The Shorebirds' players and coaches will be wearing special orange opening night jerseys. There will be a silent auction during the game for fans to bid on the jerseys. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Shorebirds' community fund. Harvey, the Orioles' 2013 first-round pick, will be the Shorebirds starter. In his South Atlantic League debut last week, he pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
